Not So Super Powers
I think everyone has a little superhero in them. Everyone is uniquely talented at least one thing. Some people make millions off their talent and others have no idea that deep inside of them a jack-in-the-box of talent is just waiting to be wound up. I like to think of talent as your own, personal super power.
My interest in fulfilling potential and finding my super power has developed into a game I like to play. Given the law of averages and probably some other complicated math I don't know, not everyone gets to have a really useful super power. What if you had a super power that was very useful in a few specific situations, but for the most part, it was completely useless? What would that super power be?
Let me get you rolling with some examples:
- Unbelievable balance
- Can sum the amount of change in the blink of an eye
- Always catch your hat when it flies off your head
I'll tell you why I like this game. Because in real life -- not comic books -- talent isn't always as valuable and effective as flying, super strength and x-ray vision. Talents, like super powers, are actually messy.
I'm going to keep a link to list we create on the right column of The Vernacularist so all y'all will have easy access to post your sparks of uselessness and inspirations of mediocrity.
